A better way to understand who you're working with.
Choosing the right company for a renovation shouldn't be based solely on a website, Instagram profile or a recommendation from someone you know.
The Build Standard is our independent framework for reviewing companies before they are invited to join The Collective. It looks beyond marketing and appearances to understand the experience, capability and credibility behind the business.

The core of our assessment framework.
Every company is different, and no single metric can determine whether a business is right for every project. The Build Standard therefore looks at a combination of factors designed to give us a more complete understanding of the company.
Reputable
A company should be trusted for the way it operates.
- Company history
- Industry reputation
- Professional conduct
- Client relationships
- Business credibility
Qualified
The right people need to be in the right roles.
- Leadership experience
- Technical expertise
- Professional qualifications
- Team capability
- Operational structure
Accomplished
Experience should be demonstrated through real work.
- Completed projects
- Project scale
- Complexity
- Quality of work
- Relevant sector experience
More than an application form.
The assessment process is designed to build a genuine understanding of the company. Depending on the nature and scale of the business, this may include:
The process is not a simple 60–90 minute assessment. It can involve multiple meetings and inspections, including at least two to three project or site visits where appropriate.
- 01 Initial application and information review
- 02 Meetings with owners or senior leadership
- 03 Review of company documentation
- 04 Review of completed projects
- 05 Visits to live or completed project sites
- 06 Follow-up discussions and verification
A mark of trust. A signal of excellence.
The Build Standard is not designed to produce a public league table of companies. We don't believe a single score can accurately determine whether one company is better than another.
Instead, the Standard helps us determine whether a company meets the level required to be included within The Collective. The company is either part of The Collective — or it isn't.
- Independently evaluated
- Continuously monitored
- Re-assessed regularly
- Held to the highest standards
